Ian makes it to level B in 100 meter BREAST STROKE

He did it at the most recent meet with the "new" team.  While he had to swim "unattached" he was able to secure a great non-DQ time (his first) in the breast stroke!!  Congratulations!!

Ian - Swim. Polo. Bass.

Ian takes some time out to get a few pointers from another swim coach.  This was scheduled PRIOR to his making the new team, so we decided to go ahead and let him learn what he can from the experience.

First water polo tournament of the season!!

And in breaking news:  Ian auditions for, and is selected to join a brand new bass studio with a very prominent instructor at the local university!!

swim team try-out

After private summer lessons, and extra time in the pool, Ian tried out to join an new swim team.  This team is smaller, and the coaching will be better (better ratio) negating the necessity of private supplemental lessons.  Also, the owner is vested in the success in his swimmers in a way the "big clubs" cannot be.  Here are a few scenes of Ian preparing and then participating in the new swim team try-out.

UPDATE 8/13/15:  Ian made the new swim team - a much smaller program with better (and more individualized) coaching.  There were many issues with the last time (everything from volunteering mandates, to disorganization and "puppy mill" feel).  This is already 100% better.  Congratulations to Ian.

Swim lessons for Ian and Hana

Hana and Ian take swim lessons.  Of course their levels were different as Hana is approximately Red Cross Level 2.5 whereas Ian is polishing up on his strokes in order to try-out for a new swim team.

Private swim coaching

Ian is doing very well.  To help bring his "swim game" to the next level, Coach Marcus is doing private 1 on 1 lessons with Ian to refine his stroke technique, entry, turns, and finish.

Water Polo Tournament

His first US Water Polo sanctioned tournament with the combined team!!
The team is for 12 years old and under.  Being only 9 years old, he spent some time on the bench, learning.  Since the entire team is quite young compared to the competition (and everyone gets to play some) they didn't win any games.  BUT they had a great time and learned a TON!!

Water Polo Game

Ian participates in his first water polo game!!  He played HALF the game.  He touched the ball with 2 hands twice, resulting in a "turn-over."  But the team WON both games nonetheless!!  Congratulations on a big water weekend for Ian!!

DEFENSE!!!

Final score:  2 to 4.  We WIN!!

Swim meet

Congratulations to our son on being a great competitor in his VERY FIRST SWIM MEET!!!
He opted to do the 50m breast stroke, and the 100m free-style.  He came in THIRD in his heat on breast, and 5th (out of 10) in free-style.
