On our journey from being very pro-traditional school to more pro-homeschool and the process of transitioning.
Haley - is a 10 yo 5th grader who attends a good local public school full-time. She is the child that expands us a parents and enhances us as individuals.
Ian - is a 7yo 1st grader who also attends a good local public school and has a wonderful teacher. He’s been ‘advocating’ for ‘homeschool’ since he could articulate the word “home-school.”
Hana - is a 5 yo pre-K who is very excited to *finally* get her turn to attend school. Hana has her own special story as an Ethiopian adoptee.
As parents, we have been blessed beyond measure to have the honor of discovering the best way to bring up these three wonderfully unique and talented children.Our transition to homeschooling was prompted by our oldest daughter, Haley,
who's a 10yo 5th grader. Up until this school year, school (while not
'perfect') worked well enough. It was "the proper thing" to do...and we didn't
give it much thought because everyone was thriving.
But with Haley's transition to intermediate school, we realized that this child
wasn't thriving as well. She had/has no major issues (thankfully), but our once
very confident little biracial child...was becoming unsure of herself. We
realize that this is a "normal" phenomena, and as children enter into puberty
(and their interests change, their body changes, their friends change, etc) they
may question their "place" and become unsure of prior 'certainties'.
But...I'm not sure it HAS to be that way.
So we're trying a different thing. And in preparation for this "different
thing," we are seeking out "our village."
